Breaking Strongholds-When the Past is Your Teacher by Teresa Conlon

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 7-8,1 Samuel 12-13,Psalm 63:1-4
Description: This is a message about the strongholds of fear and unbelief and the disastrous consequences it had on Israel, and Saul.  Even though the Lord gave them victories, they were not loyal, they rejected his rulership in favor of man's.  God warned them of the consequences. They wanted to have a man to fight their battles, someone they could see, like the world around them had, to go before them, rather than the undefeatable, Almighty God fighting for them. They didn't want to forsake their own ideals and let God be Lord of their life. Saul was representative of this rebellion and illustrates the danger of this kind of stronghold.

(1 Samuel) God Blesses When We Get Right by David Guzik

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 7
Description: The Ark is brought to the men of Kirjathjearim who consecrate a priest to look after it and the Ark stays there for 20 years. After this time the people begin to lament, yes they have the Ark back but the prescence of the Lord is still absent and they know this so they began at last to seek the God of the Ark. The Lord sends Samuel to them who speaks to them what is in the heart of God, they should turn away from their idolatry and worship of Baal and Ashtaroth, who are the modern gods of money and sex. The people heeded the word of the Lord and put away the idolatry and repented and lamented over their sin before to Lord. The Philistines saw this as a sign of weakness and decided they would finally defeat the Israelites. But the Lord was on their side now and the Philistines couldn't even get to the battle before the Lord struck them with fear and the Israelites won without even going into battle.

Why Doesn't My Christianity Work At Home by Neil Rhodes

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 3:1,Matthew 12:14-19
Description: When we get into strife, striving in our spirit, communicating and relating to others with harshness, or argumentative debate, that hinders the flow of God's power and presence in our lives. We need to have the power to not get into strife in our household, not be drawn into it. Not making loud demands of others. The Holy Spirit will not move over that. There won't be a noise and striving to be recognized. That is the person in whose life the Holy Spirit can be released. Some people nullify a good word from heaven because they get in strife, whether it's other's behaviors, or our own. When God gives us a word, he intends to stand by it. But when our lifestyle is out of order, it's hard for us to know God. It restricts what God wants to do in our homes. This is why Christianity doesn't work at home.

(1 Samuel) The Battle after the Battle by David Guzik

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 18:1-9
Description: David comes before Saul after killing Goliath and tells the king all about the batle with Goliath and the Philistines and testifies to the glory of God how the the Lord delivered Israel's enemies into their hands. It was here that the soul of Jonathan the heir to the throne was knit to the soul of David, youngest son of a sheep farmer, why? becuase of their love of the Lord. Jonathan takes off all his princely apparel and gives it to David as he knows that David, not himself, is going to be the next king of Israel. This is a picture of our relationship with the Lord Jesus who, laid aside His glory and dwelt amongst us so that He could array in His robe of righteousness. This was the high point of David and Sauls relationship, Saul sent David out to fight the Philistines, and David won a resounding victory, becaue the Lord was with him, but the people began to love David more than Saul and this caused Saul to become Jealous and he became suspicious of David from that day on, David on the other hand did not get proud but acted wisely before the Lord.

The Devil's Twins - Fret and Fear by David Wilkerson

Topic:
Scripture(s): Psalm 37:1,1 Samuel 25,Psalm 46:1-11
Description: Scripture says in the last days evil men will wax worse and worse, and often the righteous are enflamed with anger when they see and hear of the wickedness perpetrated against the innocent, such as abortion. Bro. Wilkerson illustrates through the life of David in the scriptures how not to react to the wickedness of men when you are angry, in the flesh. We need to learn to stand in the gap in intercession and not fear what is coming on the earth in these last days, because the Lord will keep his own secure.

(1 Samuel) When God Rejects a Leader by David Guzik

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 13:1-14
Description: Here we are introduced to one of the great men in this book of 1 Samuel, Jonathan who was a remarkable military leader and also son of Saul the king. Jonathan leads an army against the local philistine garrison and wins a resounding victory, even though Saul his father took the credit for it, but the philistines didn't like this at all and decided to amass an army to put down this 'rebellion' in the people of Israel who they oppessed. the people of Israel were fearful before going into battle and realised they need the Lord to fight for them, so Saul calls for Samuel to offer a sacrifice and bless them before the battle. After a few days of Samuel not coming to offer the sacrifice Saul decides to off the sacrifice himself, which was a major sin as he was a king not a priest, and just after the sacrifice is offered Samuel comes over the hill to find to his horror Saul has not waited for him, and thus not waited for the Lord's timing. Samuel offers Saul an opportunity to repent but instead he makes excuses, so Samuel tells him that the Lord has rejected him as king and has found a man after His own heart to rule the people.

(1 Samuel) Where the Battle Is Won by David Guzik

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 17:1-30
Description: This is the account of Davids fight with Goliath. Goliath was mountain of a man some say he was aroung 9ft tall, and this is reflected in the size and weight of his armour, he was a man of war from his youth and was in the philistine army army for one reason, to instill fear into their enemies. On the first day of battle Goliath headed out and stood before the army of Israel and challenged them to send out one man to fight with him, one on one, and this terrified the Israelites and their king Saul, who was the tallest in their army. Satan today uses the exact same tactics as Goliath did in that he roars at us and makes us afraid when God is on our side and there is no reason to fear what he or man might do to us. David arrives at the battle to bring supplies to his brothers who were in the army at the time and hears Goliath's challenge, but David instead of seeing Goliaths size and armour saw an uncircumsized idolater who was defying the living God, David knew this was a cause worth fighting for so he accepted Goliaths challenge.

(1 Samuel) When We Know Better Than God by David Guzik

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 8
Description: Samuel raised his sons up to be his succesors and to judge Israel after his death, but they did not walk in the way of the Lord as he did. So the Israelites came to him and told him that they rejected his sons from ruling over them because of their ungodly lives, however instead of his sons they wanted a king to rule over them instead, the reason for this lay in their desire to be just like the surrounding nations, it is very dangerous for the people of God to want to be like the those in the world around them. Samuel was saddened by this decision from the people and poured out his complaint before the Lord, as we should do. But the Lord reassured Samuel and told him that that it wasn't him they were rejecting but the Lord Himself. This was prophetic of the rejection of the Lord Jesus by the the people of Israel before Pilate. So the Lord told Samuel to tell the people of Israel what kind of king they would have, and he did, but the people still demanded a king and so the Lord gave them the king they deserved.

(Through The Bible) 1 Samuel 17-25 by Chuck Smith

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 17-25
Description: Goliath came out in the battlefield of the philistines being over 9 feet tall. The bible gives a detailed description of his armor and was said to be an awesome sight in the sight of the children of Israel. He comes out every day for 40 days to challenge the children of Israel and nobody goes out to the challenge. David was sent to give some food and get word from his brothers about the army and the battle, then he hears Goliaths challenge and has a godly stirring in his heart against this uncircumcised heathen. Goliath is defying the armies of the living God and David went into Saul to ask permission being only a child. David carries around the head of Goliath for 2 whole days even into the presence of King Saul after the slaughter of the giant. Jonathan and David had a deep bond which they had right away. Saul kept David with the army and would not allow him to leave for awhile. Wherever Saul would go he stayed with him and he was accepted in the sight of the people even though he was so young.

(Through The Bible) 1 Samuel 11-16 by Chuck Smith

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 11-16
Description: Saul was hiding inadmist the people. God told Samuel the prophet where to find him so that he could be anointed King of Israel. Samuel is stepping down and is basically be dealing with Saul and other figures but not with the people. Samuel told the people that the Lord treated them right and that God was faithful to Israel through Egypt and coming into the promised land. They were delivered from the hands of their enemies. God was fair and just and so God gives this plea of His faithfulness to the people but they still wanting in their hearts to have a king. And by choosing this they are rejecting God as king and are wanting a human king like all the nations. But still God gives them mercy saying if you have a king you still will have to keep the commandments of God and He will show mercy. So therefore God gave Israel another chance through their weakness and the calling is to serve the Lord will all their heart.
