Audio Sermons : By Scripture : 1 Samuel

(Through The Bible) 1 Samuel 1-10 by Chuck Smith

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 1-10
Description: The bible says that the eyes of the Lord go out to and fro the earth till he finds someone that is seeking Him. God needed a man that would speak to the people for Him and hear from God. There was really no mans ears that were open to God. Hannah prayed and gave her child to God if she would have a child. God delays his answers so that it is for His glory and that we would learn to pray aright. Most of our prayers are personal requests to God we are usually thinking of ourselves. If we pray according to Gods will then it will be granted. But we are usually thinking of what we want in regards to asking God. Eli the priest was watching Hannah praying and saw her mouth moving but no words so he thought she was drunk. This shows the low spirituality of the high priest that he could not discern that she was in the spirit and prevailing in prayer with God for his child and the petitions she asked. Once she heard from God she was very joyfully she has faith and believed in God what he said to her. An mark of faith is to act that I have it before I even have it, if God has promised it to us. We need to have a joyful attitude.

(1 Samuel) Blessings to the Barren by David Guzik

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 1
Description: The Bible is a real book with stories about real people and this is seen here in 1 Samuel in the life of Hannah, her husband Elkanah and Peninnah his second wife. Hannah is greived because she is barren, a situation which was possibly the worst place a woman could be in the Old Testament. Every year Elkanah and his two wives would go up to Shiloh to the feast and Peninnah would mock Hannah becasue she had not children and Peninnah did. This caused incredible sorrow in the heart of Hannah, but she did the right thing and poured out her grief before the Lord. She made a vow to the Lord that if He would give her a son she would dedicate him to the Lord in a deeper and stronger way be seperating him as a Nazerite to the Lord, the remarkable moment came when after she had grieved before the Lord her sorrow left her and her faith in God was restored, did she concieve that moment? no, but God's word was just as sure and she praised Him for it. The Lord opened her womb and she gave birth to one of the most remarkable men in the Bible, Samuel.

(The Path Of The Ark #1) Introduction Hunger by Ed Miller

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 1-3
Description: The path of the Ark of the Covenant tells a spiritual story. It answers the questions: How can Christ be King in my life and how can He be happy? The Ark lay still for 350 years until the deep cry from Hannah for fruit for God stirred God up to move again. Samuel is the kind of priesthood that moves the heart of God: a little child at rest before the throne of God ready to listen.

(1 Samuel) God’s Kind of King by David Guzik

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 16:1-13
Description: Samuel is mournig the failure of Saul as the first king of Israel, but the Lord is looking to the future and what He is going to do, so He tells Samuel to get up, fill his horn with oil and head out to anoint the next king of Israel, a king whom the Lord had chosen, not the people, a boy from among the sons of Jesse of Bethlehem, David. So Samuel arrives in Bethlehem to meet the new king, Jesse brings all of his sons before Samuel but Samuel says that the Lord has chosen none of them, then finally Jesse brings David, the youngest, from looking after the sheep, and Samuel is surprised for David is just a boy probably between 10 and 15, but the Lord knows Davids heart. Dabid had spent his life thus far being obedient out in the fields looking after the sheep and drawing close to God, he had also been in a few fights with wild animals from which the Lord had delivered him, thus David trusted in the Lord. Samuel anoints David but oil but the Lord anointed him then with the Holy Spirit.

(1 Samuel) Various Passages - Three Lives, Three Choices by David Guzik

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 3:18, 1 Samuel 13:11-12, 1 Samuel 16:12
Description: Samuel, Saul and David, three of the most memorable people to appear in the scriptures made choices early on in their lives that would influence their entire lives from then on. As a child Samuel served in the house of the Lord at Shiloh under Eli the High priest, Eli had chosen not to rebuke his sons for their wickedness and for this the Lord held him responsible, one night the Lord told Samuel, still a child, to tell Eli that he would take the priesthood from Eli. Eli asked Samuel what the Lord had said and Samuel told him everything. He chose to obey the Lord over popularity. Saul was anointed king over Israel but in a moment of panic offered a sacrifice to the Lord which was forbidden to do, when Samuel, now the prophet of God, challenged him Saul chose to make excuses for his actions instead of repenting. David was a man after God's own heart and chose to love the Lord when he was alone with the sheep in the fields where there were none to see him, David still a boy became and man of God and most likely in this time wrote Psalm 23.

(1 Samuel) God’s Worship Leader by David Guzik

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 16:14-23
Description: The Spirit of the Lord comes upon David and leaves Saul, and an evil spirit comes and distresses him. This was due to Saul's resistence to the the Holy Spirit, he had spent so long rebelling against the Spirit of the Lord that he no longer wanted to have the Spirit so He left him, and the vacuum was filled by an evil spirit which Saul wanted as was shown by his actions. The servants of Saul knew what had happened to him and asked if they should bring someone to worship the Lord before the king and lift his mood. So they went out and found David who was a skillful player of the harp and was already described as a man of war both in the sphere of physical and spiritual warfare. Pastor Guzik tells of how worship is indeed a battleground, and espescially music as it is so powerful in speaking to our inner man either for good or for evil.

The Danger of Doubting by C. H. Spurgeon

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 27:1
Description: To doubt the lovingkindness of God is thought by some to be a very small sin; in fact, some have even exalted the doubts and fears of God's people into fruits and grace, and evidences of great advancement in experience. It is humiliating to observe that certain ministers have pampered and petted men in unbelief and distrust of God, being in this matter false to their Master, and to the souls of his people. Far be it from me to smite the feeble of the flock; but their sins I must and will smite, since it is my firm conviction, that to doubt the kindness, the faithfulness, and the love of God, is a very heinous offense. Unbelief is akin to Atheism. Atheism denies God's existence- unbelief denies his goodness, and since goodness is essential to God, these doubts do, in reality, stab at his very being. That can be no light sin which makes God a liar; and yet unbelief does in effect, cast foul and slanderous suspicion upon the veracity of the Holy One of Israel. That can be no small offense which charges the Creator of heaven and earth with perjury; and yet, if I mistrust his oath, and will not believe his promise, sealed with the blood of his own Son, I count the oath of God to be unworthy of my trust...

 Barrenness by David Smithers

Topic:
Scripture(s): Genesis 2:18-23, 1 Samuel 1:6-20, Genesis 30:1-3
Description: "Barrenness," says David Smithers, "is a failure to fulfill our created purpose." Smithers' prayer sums up the passionate appeal of his message: "God, convict me; show me how barren I am and let me sense the reproach, the shame, of being barren." Are we fruitful? Are we brokenhearted over our barrenness through humility, repentance and prayer? NOTE: "Barrenness" and "Barrenness (High Quality)" are the same message.

There Is A Way To A Rejoicing Heart by Carter Conlon

Topic: Rejoicing
Scripture(s): 1 Samuel 1:6-7;Psalms 74:10;Luke 10:25
Description: It would be awful to go before the Lord with a barren place in our heart and life, an area not touched yet by the Lord where we do not have victory. Yet that is exactly what Hannah did, in spite of the fact she was provoked sore by her adversary, and mocked for her barrenness. The enemy will come and lie to you accusing you, telling you God sees your flaws and has withdrawn from you. Hannah began to fast and pray, so desperate for God to birth something in her that she was willing to give it back to him if he would. And he did. We can appropriate this lesson for our own lives. And we will find the way to the rejoicing heart, just as Hannah did.
