Audio Sermons : By Scripture : 1 Peter

(1 Peter - Part 19): The Chief Cornerstone and Us Cornerstones by A.W. Tozer

Topic: Chief Cornerstone
Scripture(s): 1 Peter 2:3-5
Description: Christ’s people are the living stones of God’s temple. On January 31, 1954, A. W. Tozer preached “The Chief Cornerstone and Us Cornerstones,” in Chicago, Illinois. It is the 19th message in a 34-part study of Peter’s first epistle. We already know that the Bible is true; the big question is whether it is true in us. From 1 Peter 2:3-5, Pastor Tozer examines the terms, “tasted,” and “lively stones,” and observes that Christians come out of the world, come away from the old life, come unto Christ, and come together. Drawing nearer to Jesus Christ is what draws Christians nearer to each other. The pastor also warns that we can get the gifts of God and then forget the God that gives. God gives himself in every gift, and it is God himself who matters more than all other gifts. The recording length is 38 minutes and 41 seconds.

(1 Peter - Part 21): As Strangers & Pilgrims, Abstain From Fleshly Lusts by A.W. Tozer

Topic: Pilgrims
Scripture(s): 1 Peter 2:11
Description: Why does Peter beseech, rather than command, to abstain from fleshly lusts? What does he mean by “strangers and pilgrims?” The 21st sermon in A. W. Tozer’s excellent 34-part study of Peter’s first epistle explores these questions. The text is 1 Peter 2:11. “As Strangers & Pilgrims, Abstain from Fleshly Lusts” was recorded on February 21, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois, and runs for 18 minutes and 32 seconds.

(1 Peter - Part 22): Our Walk in the Presence of the Unsaved by A.W. Tozer

Topic: Unsaved
Scripture(s): 1 Peter 2:12
Description: 1 Peter 2:12 addresses the question A. W. Tozer declares every earnest Christian should ask: “What should be my attitude toward the gentiles?” As he sheds light on this subject, the pastor utilizes his superb observational skills to explain why the twice born love the presence of Christians, while the once born hate it. He also propounds an important point about what it takes to rightly divide the Word of Truth, and what it doesn’t: “God never tells us anything that will enable us to get along without him.” The 22nd sermon in a series of 34 concerning the first epistle of Peter, “Our Walk in the Presence of the Unsaved” was preached in Chicago, Illinois, on February 28, 1954. Its length is 35 minutes and 14 seconds.

(1 Peter - Part 23): The Christians Relation to Government by A.W. Tozer

Topic: Government
Scripture(s): 1 Peter 2:13-16
Description: True to its title, this 23rd message of A. W. Tozer’s 34-part study on Peter’s first epistle explores “The Christian’s Relation to Government.” The words of 1 Peter 2:13-16 testify that human government is of divine order. However, Dr. Tozer debunks a myth that the Bible endorses the primitive concept of “divine right” rule. He explains, “The father, as the paternal source of the family, and thus as head of the family, and naturally as protector, defender, and bread winner of the family, was the first ruler.” Human government thus developed from the idea of the family. Furthermore, God’s Truth transcends all politics and human government. The pastor concludes with the beautiful words of Hebrews 12:22-24. The message was recorded on March 7, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois, and is 29 minutes and 42 seconds in length.

 (1 Peter - Part 24): Venerate All God's Creation by A.W. Tozer

Topic: Creation
Scripture(s): 1 Peter 2:17, Psalm 104
Description: A philosopher searches for truth inside his own head, a scientist searches outside in nature, and neither finds the whole truth, but only shattered fragments. A. W. Tozer intimates, “My friend, the wisest man in the world is the man who knows the most about God.” Only as things are seen from the sanctuary may they truly be seen in focus. Through 1 Peter 2:17 and a loving exegesis of Psalm 104, Pastor Tozer illuminates two of “the five things the Christian should do if he is to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ:” 1) Venerate all things; 2) Honor all men; 3) Love all Christians; 4) Fear God; 5) Honor the authorities. “Venerate All God’s Creation” is the 24th message in a 34-part study of Peter’s first epistle. Recorded on March 14, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois, the sermon is 40 minutes and 34 seconds in length.

(1 Peter - Part 25): On Wives and Their Place in Family Life by A.W. Tozer

Topic: Family Life
Scripture(s): 1 Peter 3:1-7
Description: The subject of 1 Peter 3:1-7 is no joking matter. In the home, says Dr. Tozer, “there’s place for recognition of the proper relationships and positions, but there is no place for domination.” “The dominating wife is a product of sin and of unbelief,” the pastor declares, “and has no place whatsoever in the will of God.” As for the husband, there is no biblical example, anywhere, for the brutal lord who rules his home with an iron hand. Pastor Tozer bravely tackles the subject of how a woman should dress, by describing four general traits: clean, neat, modest, and appropriate. “On Wives and Their Place in Family Life” is the 25th message in this 34-part study of Peter’s first epistle. It was preached in Chicago, Illinois on April 4, 1954, and its length is 29 minutes and 58 seconds.

 Spiritual Authority by David Wilkerson

Topic:
Scripture(s): 1 Peter 3:1-4,Isaiah 32:17
Description: True spiritual authority is only given to the hidden man of the heart, (Christ in you, the hope of glory) who is meek, and submitted to the will of the Father. Submit, forgive yourself for your mistakes. Go to the cross for cleansing. Seek the Lord and he will do the work in you. Excellent message on spiritual warfare. Too many in the church don't have the spiritual authority the Lord said he gave his own over all power of the enemy. Paul warned in the last days people would have an appearance of godliness with no power. You can stand up to the devil and say enough! Enough of the powerlessness in your life. Enough of letting him by with laughing at you. Submit to God, and take back your family for God. Take back what the enemy has stolen.

Topic: Godly Home Series
Scripture(s): Proverbs 31, 1 Peter 3:1-6
Description: Brother Denny encourages wives how vital and essential their role is in having a godly home. He shares how powerful an influence a hidden woman has on the life of her husband, motivating and energizing him to fulfill God's calling on his life. He then speaks on the power of a submissive spirit and how getting outside of God's creative purpose is likened to a fish out of water.
