'The mission of SermonIndex is the preservation and propagation of classical vintage preaching and the promotion of genuine biblical revival to this generation.'
The work and ministry of sermonindex can be encapsulated in this one word: Revival. Sermonindex is not an organization, business, or any attempt by man to build something for God. It is rather a expression of a heart burden to see the Church revived and brought back to holiness, purity, and power with God. The main thrust of the speakers and articles on the website are towards an 'apostolic' vision of the church of God found in Holy Scriptures. This biblical balanced Christianity is something needed in contrast to our modern day commercial, superficial, cultural Christianity. The desire for a spiritual awakening is in hopes that it will restore this original apostolic church in this world as a better expression of what the Church should be.
'I was now beholding a precious gem, what my heart had been longing for. The strong preaching that seems to have gone by the wayside has once again been resurrected.' - Mike Balog. This quote encapsulates what sermonindex has done, which is recapture old biblical preaching that has been lost for a generation. There is a need amongst the apostasy and lukewarmness to find real, solid biblical preaching in our day. This scripture was given for sermonindex as a ministry in the midst of this spiritual declension we find ourselves in: 'A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land; The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their own means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?' -Jeremiah 5:31

Q. When did SermonIndex start?
Answer. The ministry of sermonindex started in December 2002 when Greg Gordon read the book 'why revival tarries' by Leonard Ravenhill and was convicted to share Ravenhill's sermons and other resources to encourage the church towards revival and apostolic reality. Q. What is the reach of this ministry?
Answer. SermonIndex has been able to reach into 215 countries in the world in the last 5 years with over 10 million sermon downloads. Q. Who runs SermonIndex?
Answer. The body of Christ. Since its inception volunteer support has made it possible to archive over 15,000 audio sermons and other resources on the website. The true ownership of the website belongs to God's people who have made it a intra-denominational expression of the true body of Christ world-wide. Greg Gordon has been the full-time supported moderator for the last 5 years who has facilitated the volunteers in accomplishing this task.
Q. Does SermonIndex have a certain denominational emphasis?
Answer. No. SermonIndex desires to be a expression of the apostolic church found in Scriptures. It is a intra-denominational ministry with 100's of different denominations and ministries involved. Biblical truth and desire for revival is the emphasis which is foundational the ministry. A general statement of faith can be read below.
Q. Is there a statement of faith for the website?
Answer. That the Bible (66 books) is the inspired and infallible Word of God, the sole and sufficient guide for our life on earth. That there is one God eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His humanity, His perfectly sinless life, His substitutionary death as an atonement for our sins, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the Father, and His personal return to the earth for His saints. That all human beings are dead in sin and utterly lost and that the only way their sins can be forgiven is through repentance and through faith in the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. In the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit, whereby a person is born again to be a child of God. That justification is by faith in Christ alone, the evidence of this being good works that glorify God. In baptism in water, by immersion, after regeneration, in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. In the necessity of being filled with the Holy Spirit continually in order to have power to be witnesses for Christ - by life and by word. In the resurrection of the righteous to eternal life and the resurrection of the unrighteous to eternal damnation.

There is a aim to allow sermonindex to run with as little overhead as possible but still having a impact for Christ. Support is used to run the website including the hardware costs and bandwidth costs. Also, Greg Gordon currently updates and moderates the site full-time.
